My Loved one is in the hospital, what steps should I take to transition him/her to Neville Center?
When a person is in the hospital for any number of reasons they often require additional rehabilitation before they are ready to return home. The best place to start is with the hospital case manager. The case manager can also tell you if your loved one would benefit from rehabilitation or if he/she is ready to return home. The case manager can provide you with information about Neville Center and the services offered here. If Neville Center is your facility of choice, the case manager will get in touch with us and take care of getting us all of the medical information we need in order to start the process.
What is rehab?
Rehab at Neville Center consists of physical, occupational and speech therapy. Nurses are available to attend to medical issues ranging from managing feeding tubes to administering medications. The goal of rehabilitation at Neville Center is to work with patients to achieve the highest level of functioning possible. A wide variety of rehab techniques are implemented to address specific needs.
What is the difference between long term care and rehabilitation?
Neville Center can accommodate both long term stays and short term rehab stays. The main difference between the two is that Medicare covers a short term rehabilitation stay but not long term care. Sometimes when a patient completes their rehab course at Neville Center it is determined that they are no longer safe or able to return to their home. At this point if the patient decides to stay at Neville Center (or transfers to any other facility) the stay would be considered long term. The long term stay would be paid for privately, by long term care insurance or by Medicaid (MassHealth). For additional information regarding payment for care please see the Medicare website http://www.medicare.gov/nursing/Payment.asp.
Who pays for my rehab stay?
Your Medicare insurance will cover your room and board, nursing and rehabilitation at Neville Center only after you have been hospitalized for three nights. Once you arrive at Neville Center, Medicare will cover the first 20 days of your stay in full. Starting on day 21 Medicare only covers 80% of your stay and you will be billed for the copayment. However, many people have a secondary insurance that will cover the copayment. Please contact our business office to discuss the coverage your plan offers. For additional information regarding payment for care please see the Medicare website http://www.medicareadvocacy.org/InfoByTopic/SkilledNursingFacility/SNFMain.htm#whatscovered.
